New Orleans Saints sign Drew Brees to contract extension
One thing, however, the Saints do not have to worry about is the status of quarterback Drew Brees, who agreed to a five-year deal that automatically voids to two years.

In reality, Brees gets $20 million this year and $24.25 million for next season, with the total of $44.25 million fully guaranteed. The deal also gives them relief by decreasing Brees’ 2016 cap hit from $30 million to $17.25 million, according to Werder, without handcuffing them to a 15-year veteran beyond next season. Brees’ salary-cap number for 2016 has been lowered significantly by the contract. Clearly, the team didn’t like what they were seeing from him, and the extension with Brees solidifies the quarterback position for several more years. Another report states that a deal could be reached as early as Wednesday when Brees and the Saints are scheduled to have a meeting with one another.
The Saints’ prolific QB again led the league in passing last season, and he has asserted that, with the help of modern training techniques, he could play at an elite level for at least five more seasons.
In addition to his statistical feats, Brees has earned a 6-4 record in his five playoff appearances with New Orleans, including a Super Bowl victory over the Indianapolis Colts at the conclusion of the 2009 season. And his agent and lawyer cost him millions by not telling him to meet with well-meaning police in Baton Rouge to clear his name before the draft – not after.
“I support our players when they want to see change in society, and we don’t live in a ideal society”, Goodell added.
Brees’ contract also includes a full no-trade clause, according to NFL Network. In his rookie season, Grayson did not play any regular season snaps. He was released before the final season of his contract, when cutting him made more sense financially. With the way quarterback salaries have jumped in the National Football League since, he has to be considered one of the best bargains out there.
If that is the case, then Saints may not want to hear this – we may be in for a very long season. “Over the next few years, we want to put our team in the best position to keep talent and acquire talent and the right type of guys that fit what we’re trying to accomplish here”.
It’s possible that Brees could pass Peyton Manning for No. 1 on the NFL’s all-time passing yardage (71,940) and passing touchdown (539) lists before his next deal is up.

Brees is now fourth in all-time passing yards with 60,903 yards and third in passing touchdowns with 428.
