New Pennsylvania AG was prosecutor who didn’t charge Cosby

But others, including Bruce L. Castor Jr., who earlier this year served as Kane’s top aide and now steps up to temporarily head the agency in the wake of Kane’s resignation that took effect at the end of the business day on Wednesday, are looking at what comes next.

In reinstating the bail after Kane’s conviction, Judge Wendy Demchick-Alloy ordered Kane to turn over her passport Tuesday, which was done.

She is spending her last day in office in Scranton. He ran for attorney general in 2004, losing in an expensive and hotly contested party primary to Tom Corbett, who later went on to become governor.

She was the first Democrat to be elected attorney-general of Pennsylvania on a campaign that included reviewing her Republican predecessor’s investigation into Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky who was convicted of sexual abuse, according to The New York Times.

On Monday, a jury found the 50-year-old woman guilty of all nine charges brought against her including perjury and criminal conspiracy, according to the BBC. She’s considering an appeal.

Kane, who announced her resignation Tuesday, remains free on $10,000 on unsecured bail while waiting for her scheduled sentencing on October 24. She painted Kane as heedless of the law as she carried out her crimes.

Castor is a former two-term district attorney and commissioner in Montgomery County. Munchak is now in federal prison after his 2012 conviction on corruption charges.

“I believe the judge is going to send a clear message to her because she is a high-profile person”, Powell said.

Powell says Kane’s lawyers have strong arguments to keep her out of prison.

Kane looked back on her time serving the state, on her way into work this morning for the last time. Kane is not running for a second term in office, and she was not required to resign immediately.

Guidelines call for Kane to be sentenced to anywhere from probation to two and a half years behind bars, but the judge could go beyond that and sentence her to a maximum of 14 to 28 years.

Kane wants to look beyond what may happen at her sentencing. Also saying that he has no intention of retaliating against witnesses, Castor at the news conference said that he would have to determine whether a review of Morrow’s involvement in the case would be covered by the non-retaliation bail condition set for Kane. Kane’s lawyers also complained that the judge had not allowed them to argue in court that the investigation had been propelled by former state prosecutors anxious that Kane would reveal their raunchy, pornographic interoffice emails she had discovered on the office’s services.

She said, “I’ve been truly honored to serve [Pennsylvania]. It has been one of the greatest experiences of my life”.
