New Pipeline Attacks in Niger Delta

That followed two claimed NDA attacks on two supply pipelines in Bayelsa state on Wednesday and a warning it would bring oil production to a standstill in Nigeria unless its demands were met.

The group said in a tweet it had bombed the Ogboinbiri to Tebidaba and Clough Creek to Tebidaba crude oil pipelines operated by Eni in southern Bayelsa state at about 0100 GMT and about an hour later blew up the 48-inch Forcados export line operated by Shell.

“This is in line with our promise to all global oil companies and indigenous oil companies that Nigeria oil production will be zero”.

Mr. Arkwright said: “We are talking to Nigerian authorities about that, we need to have what we call a comprehensive approach to this, in other words we need to have dialogue and we need to engage the communities down there”.

The group warned AGIP not to carry out any fix works in the vandalised pipelines and vowed that if the warning is ignored, it would lead to regret.

The Niger Delta Avengers militant group are no more content in sabotaging Nigeria’s oil facilities, their ultimate goal is to cripple Nigeria’s production to such an extent that nothing will be produced and exported.

That grade has been under force majeure since an attack on a sub-sea pipeline in February. In a statement posted on their website, the said; “our war is on oil installations not to take innocent lives”. A wave of such attacks have helped drive the country’s oil output to a 20-year low.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari cancelled a planned visit to the Niger Delta Thursday. Western allies and local officials have told the former military chief that he needs to address poverty and oil pollution in the Delta to stop unrest.

The statement signed by Brid.Gen Mudoch Agbinibo, the group’s self-acclaimed spokesman said: “The Niger Delta Avengers were not involved in the attack of the Military houseboat around Warri, Delta State”.

“We have dispatched our men and we have intensified patrols in the area”.

The Avengers say oil firms in the Delta are responsible for pollution and say the poor swampland region fails to reap any benefit from the wealth on which it sits.
