New polls show tight races in battlegrounds

Forty-one percent of North Carolina voters said they have a favorable opinion of Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, while 49% said they have an unfavorable opinion. Will Clinton’s remark do similar damage to her candidacy?

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has taken aim at supporters of Republican rival Donald Trump, saying half of them belong in a “basket of deplorables” as people who are racist, homophobic, sexist, xenophobic, or Islamophobic.
“She is the corrupt establishment”, Trump said. According to Real Clear Politics, the latest poll shows Clinton up by four points, but several polls published Wednesday only gave Clinton a two-point advantage and one had Trump ahead by as much as five points.
Clinton campaign spokesman Nick Merrill sought to clarify the former secretary of state’s remarks.
Speaking to donors on Friday night, Hillary Clinton outlined what she sees as the two types of Trump supporters.
Clinton then pivoted and tried to characterize the other half of Trump’s supporters, putting them in “that other basket” and saying they need empathy. “If he doesn’t respect all Americans, how can he serve all Americans?”

Reflecting on her Christianity, Clinton said Jesus Christ’s greatest command was to love. While she has headlined more than 330 fundraisers as a candidate, her campaign has kept most of these events closed from reporters.
