New Scooby-Doo Movie In Development At Warner Animation

The Scooby-Doo film reunites Oscar-nominated producers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle (American Hustle), who previously produced the Studio’s hugely successful live-action features Scooby Doo and Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.

Warner Bros. has announced plans to produce an animated feature take on Hanna-Barbera’s classic toon Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? Allison Abbate, who has credits on “Fantastic Mr. Fox“, “Corpse Bride” and “Frankenweenie“, is also producing. The reason why we haven’t seen a Scooby-Doo movie since is because the sequel was a disappointment for the studio, making almost $100 million less than its predecessor at the global box office.

Since Scooby-Doo was a hit on the big screen with a live-action cast (featuring Matthew Lillard, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar no less!), it’s all but assured the character can do that in his purest, animated form.

Matt Lieberman has been attached as screenwriter since August 2013, so we’re hoping the time it’s taken to write means we’ll get the best mystery of all time!

The official announcement from Warner Bros. came on August. 17, 2015, although there was word that a reboot of the series might be happening as far back as June of 2014. “Mystery Incorporated.” Renowned animation icon Dan Povenmire (“Phineas and Ferb“) will also bring his creative sensibilities to the production as an executive producer. Beyond the fact that the film will be animated, the trade report doesn’t make mention of the style in which this new Scooby-Doo will be made.

Scooby Doo is already slated for a September 21, 2018 release.

After almost a decade, Warner Bros.is reviving popular cartoon Scooby.
