Apple announced some new updates for the iPad Pro at WWDC as part of the upcoming iOS 11 update that finally builds out the tablet’s potential as a professional device, with what Apple calls “the largest iOS release for iPad ever”. But developers, consumers and investors are most excited by the new iPhone, expected later this year. At launch you’ll get all of the biggest, hottest languages, including English, French, German and Chinese. It’s a bit more cluttered than the interface in iOS 10, but things like music, which was relegated to its own screen in iOS 10, is now together with everything else for one-swipe access.
Siri’s voice is more natural and expensive.
Messages will be stored in iCloud and will synchronise automatically when you sign into a new device.
The new feature in Apple Pay involves person to person payment. From there, that money can be used to pay other people, or be deposited from the cash card to a bank account. Before, Apple Pay transactions could be done only with businesses and institutions.
During Apple’s WWDC keynote earlier today, company executives officially took the wraps off of iOS 11. The operating system can also detect when someone is driving a vehicle, and will offer a “Do Not Disturb While Driving” mode that will disable notifications and auto-respond, letting people know the user is, well, driving. Apple says that this makes backups faster (by cutting down on messages taking up on-device storage) and makes for a more seamless messaging experience. Any who tries to contact you will also receive a canned response saying you’re not available. Low-light performance and optical image stabilization should also be getting noticeable refinements, while the Photos app can recognize different events (weddings, sports matches) in your Memories thanks to machine learning.
Traditionally, Apple announces its newest operating system at WWDC before releasing it to the public later the same year. This technology reduces the file size of every photo taken on these two devices. Regarding the new keyboard option, Apple has a small write-up on the feature on its brand new iOS 11 feature page. The app switcher will also be redesigned making it easier to move between active apps.
The new iOS for iPads will include new features including a Launch Dock to make it easier to move between apps, drag and drop features, and the new Files app, a new iOS 11 app created to make it easier to organize the files on your devices. The Apple App Store is also getting a makeover, with a designated tab just for games.
It also enhanced its workout app to, for instance, support high intensity interval training.
Apple is also launching AFKit, which Apple is hoping will allow iPhone and iPad to become a major augmented reality (AR) platform.
A brief look at some more features coming with iOS 11 includes a redesigned App Store. iOS developers will now get their stories discovered on App Store.
Using AirPlay 2, Apple HomeKit will now allow you to create multi room audio setups in the Home app.
