As par for the course, fellow smartphone heavyweights HTC and Sony are going to make their own appearances at the MWC this year.
As of Sunday, over 2,000 exhibitors and more than 94,000 attendees will descend upon the Spanish city of Barcelona, to attend the global mobile industry’s most important week for launches, deal-making and agenda-setting.
Still, the US appears poised to take the leadership position in 5G, with AT&T and Verizon having already announced 5G field tests this year. Because right now, you can buy a Chinese phone at the price point of 200 dollars that delivers flagship device specs of devices that costs like seven, eight hundred dollars about two years ago. LG’s modest increase over two years has dropped it to sixth place, far behind Lenovo (four) and Xiaomi (five).
Samsung’s new phones, following the success of the S6, are expected to include more processing power, a better camera, longer lasting battery, the possible return of a microSD card and water resistance, and possibly a 4k AMOLED display.
Samsung might also unveil a new version of the GearVR and a 3D VR camera at the MWC 2016, as reported by Gizmodo. This could be the second screen that reliable leaker Evan Blass claims to have seen. There’s also talk of a new port on the bottom of the phone called the Magic Slot which could potentially lead to expansions such as different cameras or as a way to connect to a virtual reality headset. Reports indicate that Sony is likely to announce a new range of smartphones, and is also rumored to be working on an in-ear device that provides audio alerts and responds to voice commands.
In addition to Galaxy S7, there will be an Edge variant, just like its predecessor.
From smartphones packed with more processing power to gadgets that can make wired lives easier, the annual event in Barcelona gives a first look at some of the impressive technology consumers can expect to get their hands on this year. The Mi 5 will reportedly come with 32GB or 64GB of storage, with then 32GB model packing 3GB of RAM and the 64GB model featuring 4GB of RAM.
Notably, it is widely reported that they will run Windows 10 Mobile as their operating system.
Pricing: While the precise costs are unconfirmed, VentureBeat pegs the Pop 4 at less than $100 and the Pop 4s at a sub-$200 price. However, there is a high chance that either one of the devices will be released at MWC 2016. All these will reportedly be enclosed in a full metal body.
Pricing: $599, if the product page GSMArena found is to be believed.
Huawei is holding a press conference in Barcelona on 21 February, where it is expected to announce a new smartphone.

Away from the gaudy vendor press conferences and packed show floor, MWC 2016 also boasts a speaker line-up featuring numerous biggest names in the technology space. The company is also expected to launch the next generation of Galaxy Tab S2, the Tab 3. However in the meantime, this is what you may be able to expect at the upcoming event. X Screen-the other budget device-will also sport “Always On” feature too.
