Jackman’s interest in playing Bond reemerges just as actor Idris Elba responded to 007 creator Anthony Horowitz’ comments referring to him as “too street” for the leading role.

He’s 46 years old, which is old to take over the James Bond role, but not necessarily too old.

The Mad Max Fury actor is among other contenders like Henry Cavill, Michael Fassbender, Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom, Dougray Scott, Rupert Friend, and Dominic West.

Jackman, who is preparing to end his run as another iconic character when The Wolverine 2 hits theaters in 2017, reveals that he was once asked to play James Bond before Daniel Craig signed on. A lot of attention has been paid to Idris Elba, with fans not-so-subtly pushing for the actor to become the first black Bond in cinematic history, despite the many detractors who are against the idea entirely.

Leading the race is longtime favorite Idris Elba who is tied with Homeland’s Damian Lewis with betting odds of 3-1.

He said: “Hopefully my Bond is not as sexist and misogynistic as (earlier incarnations)”. But when asked whether he would accept the role in case it was offered now, “I’d seriously consider it”, was his response.

“I think there’s a traditional … you know, how Ian Flemming saw the books, and I think you should honour Ian Flemming’s vision for Bond”. “I’m not trying to be coy”. Meanwhile, Craig recently told Esquire that he had a life and it was time for him to start living it, which suggests that his tenure as 007 is about to fold. Horowitz insisted that he meant no offense with his comments, and explained that he’s simply a writer and not a casting director so his thoughts should not be given much weight on choosing the next Bond star.
