New stage for Donald Trump at Republican National Convention

“YouTube will again be the official live stream provider of both the Republican National Convention, which starts on Monday, July 18 in Cleveland, Ohio, and the Democratic National Convention, kicking off on July 25 in Philadelphia, Pa”, YouTube wrote in a blog post.

The candidate said he just wanted people to come out of the Republican National Convention knowing this fact: “I’m very well-liked”. But it is clear he’ll need more than that if he is to end his four days in the spotlight achieving more good than harm.

Trump, well known to Americans as a reality TV star, has upset many in the Republican establishment with his free-wheeling style, frequent insults to rivals and controversial policy proposals such as imposing a temporary ban on Muslims entering the country and building a wall along the border with Mexico. “There were no conditions put on anything”.

“2020! 2020! 2020!” they chanted at one point, booing at Trump at another.

Trump allies were furious. Trump’s son Eric Trump, on CBS’ “This Morning”, labeled it “classless”. The RNC crowd, of course, is largely filled with Trump supporters.

Beyond that, the two men have a history of animosity.

He says he felt pride standing on the convention floor watching the balloons drop from the ceiling as Trump finished his speech.

Rep. Walter Jones, R-Farmville, said he had a chance to talk to Cruz about the presidential election when he ran into him at the Capitol Hill Club in Washington a few weeks ago.

Cruz tried to make nice Thursday morning at a Texas delegation breakfast, but was challenged by several Lone Star State delegates who wondered why he couldn’t either get on the Trump train or stay away. “If you love our country, and love your children as much as I know you do, stand, and speak, and vote your conscience, vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the Constitution”.

The Clinton campaign said Trump’s message to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies was really, “Maybe, maybe not”. “Harry Truman would be ashamed”, Clinton adviser Jake Sullivan said in a statement. “I’m more concerned about the oneness of America, and that’s why we’re voting for Donald Trump”. His remarks represent a final opportunity to unify the party after a fractured convention and rally supporters behind him before he officially starts what is expected to be a heated race against Hillary Clinton for the White House.
