Rogue One is set a few years after Star Wars Rebels and it is indicated that the franchise will introduce more tie-ins.

Series executive producer Simon Kinberg told Moviefone about the possible connection between the third season and that of upcoming films in the “Star Wars” franchise.
“I think part of the fun of the way they’re building the universe is that it is interconnected between the different movies and even beyond the movie.It’s something that was true in comic books going back, the way that you’d have interconnections between characters and stories”.
As Making Star Wars notes, expect the buzz about the Star Wars: Rogue One trailer to increase in the next week or so. They were trying to balance the original cast from “Clone Wars” with the ones in the original films and also attempt to feature more content for future movies.
Meanwhile, though Disney XD has yet to announce the official premiere date for “Star Wars Rebels” season 3, the two-episode premiere will be screened during this year’s Star Wars Celebration, which takes place July 15-17 in London.
“Feeding into future movies” is the exciting quote there.
There is already a history of crossovers between the animated series and the cinematic universe.
Plenty of characters who originated in the live-action Star Wars movies have gone on to appear in animated series like The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.
A new, full-length trailer for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is coming next week.

Starring Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed and Jonathan Aris, Rogue One, set before the events of A New Hope, will depict the war between the Empire and Rebel Alliance as a group of Rebel fighters attempt to steal the plans to the Death Star. The trailer will be included as part of an hour-long TV special about the revival of the Star Wars brand with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, expanding the special from one hour to one hour, three minutes.
