At Apple‘s press conference in San Francisco Wednesday, Nintendo announced Super Mario Run, a level-based action platforming game coming first to iOS.

“We have created Super Mario Run to be ideal for playing on your iPhone”, said Miyamoto.

Miyamoto, who helped create the original Super Mario, appeared on stage to talk the audience through Nintendo’s latest project.

Super Mario Run is going to be released exclusively for iPhone and iPad later this year in December. As Miyamoto explains, you can play the game one-handed so that you can play it “while holding onto a handle in the subway, while eating a hamburger, or while eating an apple”. As you might have guessed, the name of the game is to guide Mario as he runs and jumps over a variety of 2D platforms to grab the usual assortment of power-ups and goodies. The second mode is a challenge mode where you challenge other people’s completed courses and see if you can top their score and look better doing it.

According to the official description of the game, which is already up on the App Store, the game will feature courses for players to compete.

Mario’s App Store debut will come just months after Nintendo’s other iconic property, Pokemon, took mobile gaming by playwith “Pokemon Go”. Collect the coins and get to the flagpole before the sands of the time runs out.
