Affected West Virginia students are invited to a workshop from 10 a.m.to 1 p.m. Tuesday in Huntington’s Big Sandy Superstore Arena and Convention Center to meet with financial aid counselors.

“We are working quickly to find solutions for these students”, Chancellor Sarah Tucker said in the release.
“Many hardworking NY students have enrolled at ITT campuses across the state and invested significant time and resources into their education”.
“We urge your institution to consider providing assistance to the students of ITT Technical Institutes so they are able to continue their studies toward a meaningful degree and future”, Barbara Beno, president of the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, wrote in a September 6 letter to community college chiefs. Others may wish to assert a Defense for Repayment to have their federal student loans discharged if they believe they were defrauded or misled.
The company operated two schools in MA. Even though over the summer the Huntington campus stopped accepting new students, the school still had students enrolled in classes as of last week. “We just hope to be able to help the students”.
Community colleges across Alabama are reaching out to former ITT Tech students after the institute’s sudden closure last week. ITT also cut more than 8,000 jobs immediately.
ITT Educational Services Inc., the school’s corporate owner, said in the statement announcing the closure that federal officials’ actions effectively amounted to ordering a shutdown of their campuses without due process.
Under President Barack Obama, the Education Department has led a crackdown on for-profit colleges that have misled students or failed to deliver the results they promise. The department is also deciding whether to cut ties with the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, the group that accredited ITT and Corinthian.

“My understanding is that they (ITT) enrolled approximately 35,000 students”, she said. Students bringing their ITT transcripts may request an evaluation to determine transfer credit and a degree audit to see how close they may be to an MCC degree completion.
