New Titans GM has ties to Kelly, McDaniels

According to various reports, the Titans also will interview former Bills head coach Doug Marrone, Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, and interim coach Mike Mularkey, who replaced Ken Whisenhunt after Tennessee got off to a 1-6 start. The Titans went 18-46 during Webster’s tenure as GM.

Robinson’s first task will be deciding on a head coach.

Jon Robinson has been in Tampa Bay for the last two seasons as the director of player personnel. According to the Tennessean, the Titans will have a four-person interview committee which will included owner Amy Adams Strunk, co-owner Kenneth Adams IV, president and CEO Steve Underwood and Vin Marino, the team’s vice president of football administration. Before that, he was in New England for 12 years and was the Patriots’ director of college scouting from 2009 to 2013. That could fuel speculation that the Titans will wait to interview Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels if Mularkey doesn’t earn the nod. Traditionally, a GM is given carte blanche – or at least a strong say – in picking what is essentially their head coach.

ESPN reported Robinson was hired in part because he agreed to give Mularkey a serious look as head coach.

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator, Hue Jackson was snagged up quickly on Wednesday by the Cleveland Browns before he had time to visit other teams. The team also will begin interviewing head coach candidates Thursday, and Robinson’s past connections could provide some insight into the eventual hire.

It will be interesting to see what Robinson does with this pick, but Titans fans hope he can draft better than Webster did.
