New treasurer says Australia has a ‘spending’ problem, with a budget review
“There’s plenty of people out there who want to raise taxes and have a new idea for a tax every single day of the week”, the treasurer told reporters during a joint press conference with the finance minister, Mathias Cormann. The final white paper was due to be released early next year, and would have been the ruling coalition’s taxation policy platform for Abbott’s 2016 election run.

But in a brief Facebook post, which also included a link to the Fairfax article, Mr Turnbull said the story was “not true”.
‘It is very important that we are a low tax country so that we can get these entrepreneurs from all over the world to make Australia home so that they can grow these business and ultimately create the jobs that our country needs, ‘ Mr Roy said.
The Prime Minister is quite correct.
The scope of the current tax white paper process was very broad and covered all the necessary issues, he said.
MR Abbott accused his former social services minister of misleading Australians by saying he’d advised the prime minister’s office that “things were febrile” and to be on high alert.
“We are working together on the MYEFO, which is on track to be delivered in December this year as planned”, he said.
Australia doesn’t have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem.
“When we are in a position to release it, we will”, added Mr Corman.
New Treasurer Scott Morrison has declared the budget has a spending problem not a revenue one and said tax reform must help people “work, save and invest” – the government’s new slogan.
“It came as a shock”.
He hinted that the draft tax white paper, known as the green paper, would present options already flagged in submissions about raising the GST, and lowering company and income taxes.
It is believed that Treasury secretary John Fraser was instructed to communicate that news last week. “Perhaps he can rise above the scare campaign and embrace our policy, our call for this serious tax reform”.
That includes the need for a tax system that incentivises innovation and a more productive economy.
“We want simple, lower, fairer taxes but I will put a ruler across all areas that says what will increase participation”. “I have no doubt this whole process has cost Australian industry hundreds of millions of dollars”.
“I can be very mission focused when it comes to the objectives I’m given”.
Mr Morrison said he would drive a housing affordability package in partnership with the states that would release more land for home construction.
Opposition Leader Bill Shorten said he was sceptical when the Liberal Party started talking about lower taxes. “While there’s been a lot of discussion about the features of the tax system, I don’t think there’s been enough discussion about the benefits of the tax system”.
New Treasurer Scott Morrison has pledged to introduce personal and family income tax cuts to reward hard-workers.
Morrison said the previous Abbott government was more concerned with the negatives of the old government instead of focusing on what positives it could bring to Australian voters.

Mr Morrison has also picked up other Costello staff, including Sascha Grebe.
