Time reports that while a few fans may be disappointed that the tenth anniversary celebration will not include the release of Midnight Sun-which is Twilight told from Edward’s point of view-Meyer is hoping that fans will be content with Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined, which features main characters named Edythe (tres romantique) and Beaufort (¯_(ツ)_/¯).
Meyer writes in her foreword to the anniversary edition of the novel that the gender bending twist was prompted by her desire to prove that Bella isn’t a “damsel in distress”, but a “human in distress“.
The novel, called Death and Life: Twilight Envisioned – the cover of will be available in hardcover and e-book kinds on Tuesday. In celebration, author Stephanie Meyer has rewritten her vampire romance to make Bella Swan a boy and Edward Cullen a girl.
In the new novel, Beau Swan falls in love with the mysterious Edythe Cullen, whom he will eventually discover is a vampire.
“The further you get in the more it changes because the personalities get different”, Meyer said (via USA Today).
“My answer to that has always been that Bella is a ‘human in distress, ‘ a normal human being surrounded on all sides by people who are basically superheroes and villains”. We don’t have the powers.
Stephenie Meyer has created a new story as part of the bonus material for the 10th anniversary edition of Twilight.
“It’s really very much the same thing”, she added. For the 10th anniversary of “Twilight”, she has switched the genders of its famous star-crossed lovers.

When asked if she had begun to imagine “Twilight Reimagined” as a movie, Meyer replied, “I don’t really see that happening and a lot of the people I’d put in it would be like Grace Kelly so it’s a little too late for a few of my first choices”. But I’ve always maintained that it would have made no difference if the human were male and the vampire female – it’s still the same story.
