To make it easier for Windows 10 users to perform a clean installation of the OS, Microsoft today released a new tool called the “Refresh Windows Tool”.

Nevertheless, the new toll will become available to the public when the Anniversary Update 1607 rolls out next month.
The Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14366 for PC, and the Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 14364, are still being finalised before the update but the preview builds are available now to testers who are on the Fast Ring. They remind users that trying out an early version of a tool is always risky so they recommend Insiders not to use the tool on their primary PC. The only option is whether or not you want to preserve your personal data. For now, only the preview builds can make use of the said free tool from the Redmond-based company. It will also remove most pre-installed applications such as OEM applications, support applications, and drivers.
In terms of new features, this build doesn’t bring too many, as it’s focused specifically on fixing bugs and improving performance – Microsoft has already confirmed that Windows 10 Anniversary Update is feature-locked, so new features are very unlikely to land in the coming builds. The tool isn’t guaranteed to install the latest version, but Microsoft says it should be a “recent” version. “Using this tool will remove ALL applications that do not come standard with Windows, including other Microsoft applications such as Office”. You’ll have to reinstall all of this yourself if you need it post-installation. But that approach has been largely used by experienced hands: Refresh Windows still requires much manual work in re-installing deleted apps, but it automates the process somewhat by taking care of the image downloading.
