New Wis. Driver’s Licenses created to Curb Fraud, Identity Theft

A new Wisconsin driver’s license and ID card design is being called the most secure in the U.S. It’s a new state of the art license that will make getting a fake ID even harder.

Local law enforcement agencies say they won’t have a problem getting used to the new license when identifying people.

The DMV says “an innovative polycarbonate card and laser-engraved black and white photo are the most prominent features created to curb fraud and identity theft”. “The photo on them is laser engraved so if you try to tamper with it, will dissolve the card”, Perry said. “It’s virtually impossible to separate those layers without destroying the card”, she said. All fees and prices are staying the same, as is the typical wait time for when your license arrives in the mail after renewal, and you don’t have to head into a DMV to obtain a new license until your current one expires.

Driver’s services bureau director Ann Perry told the network that the new licence cards are printed on a new type of poly-carbonate material.

Residents don’t need to visit a DMV until their card expires; their cards are valid until it’s time to renew them. They also have raised features that the Department of Transportation says can easily be felt and are hard to copy. It will also have ultraviolet ink that displays Wisconsin artwork on the front of the card.
