New Yankees closer Dellin Betances shaken over trade of Andrew Miller
The deal came less than 12 hours after the Indians had reached agreement on the parameters of a swap with Milwaukee for Brewers All-Star catcher Jonathan Lucroy. He is 56-54 with a 4.07 ERA in six years in the majors. Milwaukee general manager David Stearns says the Brewers will move on after Lucroy refused to waive the no-trade provision in his contract.

The Indians are responsible for the remaining $20 million of salary for Miller, who is in the second year of a four-year deal worth $36 million.
Miller, 31, is an exceptional left-handed reliever who appeared in 44 games for the Yankees this season, posting a 6-1 record with a 1.39 ERA and nine saves.
Andrew Miller is arguably baseball’s best relief pitcher and, once you account for the fact that he’s under team control through 2018 he’s undoubtedly the most valuable relief pitcher in the game. This is a guy that, again, will impact our team in so many ways. It’s extremely tough to win a bunch of majors and this year we had four new first time winners (Danny Willett – Masters, Dustin Johnson – U.S. Open, Henrik Stenson – The Open Championship and now Jimmy Walker – PGA Championship).
Tyler Clippard’s career has spanned for 13 seasons as he has played for the Washington Nationals, New York Mets, Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, and most recently the Arizona Diamondbacks.
“(The Indians) have it going pretty good as it is”, Miller said. Whether he takes over Bryan Shaw’s spot as the eighth-inning guy, or usurps Cody Allen as the closer, the Tribe bullpen is now solidified for a deep playoff run. Two thoughts: 1) Indians fans should not strafe Lucroy too hard for taking advantage of his negotiated rights; and 2) whatever the reason, Lucroy chose not to join a contender, which tells me winning a World Series is not atop his list of priorities, in which case the Indians are better off without him.
“I was very surprised”, said Betances, who learned of the trade via social media at around 9:30 Sunday morning. “It’s great that they have that boost”. MLB Rumors: Cubs still want Andrew Miller despite acquiring Mike Montgomery? Here’s a look back at Saturday’s trade chatter.
While the Yankees kept adding free agents around the core group of Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Bernie Williams, Andy Pettitte and Jorge Posada, amateur drafts yielded relatively little and Major League Baseball restricted the Yankees and other high-revenue teams with taxes on high payrolls and penalties for exceeding defined thresholds on amateur spending.
Indians ownership has drawn criticism in the past for failing to make financial sacrifices and orchestrate significant moves. At the trade deadline, in 2016, the Cleveland Indians have landed one of the biggest fish in the lake.
“We have not performed up to expectations, expectations that I set, so I’m responsible for that”, Cashman said. “We have a team that we feel is capable of competing in the postseason and, if we get there, has a chance to win”. “I’m not going to think about it”.
Once the Yankees chose to focus on the future and try to create a sustained core, they did exactly what they needed to do to grab high-end upside prospects.
John is not sweating bullets this season because his team won a World Series title last season.

“The chessboard that’s lined up that we’re playing is not the same chessboard that we were playing back when I just started in the late ’80s”, he said. “There is no bigger”. “He just wants the ball”.
