New year’s day spoiled for Boston Bruins
Tuukka Rask stopped 25 shots for the Bruins, and Matt Beleskey scored in the third period to avert the first shutout in Winter Classic history.

Brady, who normally calls the Gillette Stadium field home, will still be there despite the fact that the turf has been replaced by an ice rink for the NHL’s annual New Year’s classic. However, the new year didn’t start off the way the Bruins had wanted.
The Montreal side of the equation was thrilled to see their team pick it back up again after a month of dropped games and missed chances. By the time 60 minutes of action ended, it was obvious the distance between the two teams was as great as it looked in October. The Florida Panthers now sit in second with 46 points. We’re trying out there and sometimes, you just don’t have it. Today, we get scored on a couple of times in front of the net. But the game is usually something of an afterthought – even when, like this year, it involves two rivals that are battling for position in the standings. It all started with getting outshot 14-3 in the first period, and losing just about every puck battle to a faster, hungrier and more impassioned Canadiens hockey club. Without them, the B’s looks discombobulated and struggled to maintain consistent pressure in the Canadiens’ end.
“He’s under some pretty tight security, so I don’t think they would let a Montreal player into the Pats locker room”, he said.
He made some key saves and held the Canadiens to only one goal in the first. When the other team scores a goal or a big play happens we need our best players to step up and make something happen for us. However, a goalie can’t win a game on his own.
With the Canadiens leading 1-0 in the third period on December 9 in Montreal, the Bruins struck for two quick ones in 42 seconds to take the lead, ultimately netting a third and winning 3-1. Boston defenceman Zdeno Chara, who stands a foot taller than Gallagher, responded by grabbing the Montreal player and throwing him to the ice with a move that would have earned him a 15-yard penalty in football for face-masking.
Since the 2008-09 season, the National Hockey League has been participating in a highly anticipated event: the Winter Classic. In the second power play in particular, the Bruins had a lot of zone time and managed some good shots on goal. Four of the five goals allowed by Rask were the result of some impressive hand-eye coordination on the part of the Canadiens, and he was often left to fend for himself.
The Bruins tried to intimidate the Canadiens at several points in the game, but Pacioretty shrugged that off as “typical”. “Obviously it’s a big rivalry, and the focus is always on those games more than maybe other games”. “We gave them a ton of scoring chances in those two periods, which is unlike us”. We’ve got to be ready for a big stage.

Tom Brady and Julian Edelman’s social media teams just shared more classic social media posts, with a Winter Classic twist. They won the game in 2003 and were shut out in 2011 by the Calgary Flames.
