New York City bridges and tunnels to close due to snow

The state Department of Transportation is shifting its resources downstate ahead of a winter storm that is expected to bring significant snowfall to New York City and its suburbs this weekend.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo imposed a ban on all local and state roads across the city of 8.4 million residents.

In light of the travel bans, de Blasio said he asked New York City’s restaurant and Broadway theater owners to close for the day and allow employees to return home. – Broadway shows were canceled.

The MTA announced earlier Saturday that the buses would be suspended indefinitely from noon onward. At a 5:30 p.m. news conference the mayor said the ban would continue until at least the early-morning hours of Sunday.
