New York Giants: Eli Manning Excited About Ben McAdoo Becoming Head Coach

“Excited for Coach McAdoo”, cornerback Prince Amukama said in a text to The Associated Press. Even if McAdoo were promoted to offensive coordinator, which was unlikely with Edgar Bennett on staff, it would be nothing more than a title as long as Mike McCarthy was calling plays.

“This is the capital of the world, and the football capital of the world and with that comes a certain amount of pressure, pressure I look forward to”, McAdoo told reporters, including CBS2’s Otis Livingston. It’s hard for Giants fans to argue with that kind of improvement.

McAdoo will be charged with not only keeping the Giants among the best offensive teams in the National Football League, but also with overseeing a rebuilding phase on defense that will be spearheaded by general manager Jerry Reese, who will be under the gun to find impact players. That is faulty thinking. His final negotiations with the Giants about succeeding Tom Coughlin happened in such rapid fashion, he didn’t have the time to purchase a new suit to fit his slimmed-down frame. McAdoo is set to be Coughlin’s successor. But Coughlin was not and is not McAdoo’s mentor or guru.

McAdoo got the first shot at the Giants’ job and he must have made an immediate impression. This likely wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone in the Giants organization.

If the Eagles do tab Coughlin as their next coach – and see him more as a new start than a stopgap – the man who started as an assistant at Syracuse 47 years ago could shatter that record. Over the last two years, he is 0-4 against the Eagles. They believe in the way he works, the way he leads and the way he coaches.

“If he wants to keep coaching and that’s the team that will give him a job, I’ll be happy for him”, Umenyiora told Sky Sports.

Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is expected to be back, and Joe Philbin, who worked with McAdoo in Green Bay, is expected to replace him as offensive coordinator.

That’s right, the young 38-year old Mike McCarthy disciple, who is coming off two back-to-back 6-10 seasons with the organization, is now the boss in East Rutherford for this storied organization. They meant to interview Cincinnati offensive coordinator Hue Jackson on Thursday, but he accepted the Browns job hours before the Giants decided on McAdoo.McAdoo also impressed the Philadelphia Eagles when he interviewed for their coaching vacancy. – Dan Graziano, ESPN.com Ben McAdoo will sit in an office that has only ever been occupied by Tom Coughlin. The Giants just wanted a fall guy, which is all Coughlin will be remembered as now. Coughlin won two Super Bowl titles with the Giants.
