New York Giants Place LB JT Thomas on IR; Reinstate Josh Brown

Kicker Josh Brown will take Thomas’ spot on the active roster, as he was reinstated from his one-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy Monday.

Coach Ben McAdoo announced yesterday that Brown would be the team’s kicker for the home opener this week vs.

Thomas exited Sunday’s season-opening win over the Dallas Cowboys with a left knee sprain, but follow-up tests determined he tore ligaments in his knee.

Thomas missed most of training camp with a hamstring injury. He made the initial 53-man roster, but was waived a day later when the Giants claimed defensive tackle Robert Thomas off waivers from the Panthers. He was playing mainly on special teams and this could open the door for rookie linebacker B.J. Goodson to get some snaps as he was inactive on Sunday.

Starting middle linebacker Kelvin Sheppard was mostly invisible on Sunday.

“That could change shortly”, McAdoo said. Starting tackles John Hankins and Damon Harrison both played almost 60 snaps against the Dallas Cowboys with waiver-wire acquisition Robert Thomas inactive due to illness.

The Giants have yet to announce a corresponding cut, but it seems likely that it will be kicker Randy Bullock. He spent the 2015 season on the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad. He missed on an extra point attempt and didn’t attempt a field goal against the Cowboys.
