New York holding parade for champion US women’s soccer team

Here’s the backstory: In the fall of 1886, an impromptu celebration broke out on the streets of the city as part of the dedication of the Statue of Liberty, according to the Mayor’s Office.
Even though the women’s soccer team is a national team and not a local one, the outcry to honor the players with a parade had been fervent.
New Yorkers who spoke with NY1 say they think a parade would be a good idea.
The parade will end with a special ceremony outside City Hall- for tickets go to this page tomorrow, Wednesday, July 8th, between 2-4 P.M. (EST) to sign-up for a chance to attend.
Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer had written to de Blasio suggesting the women be honored with a parade in lower Manhattan.
This will also be the first ticker-tape parade in more than three years; the last time a parade like this was held was after the New York Giants won Super Bowl XLVI in 2012.
The route will take the team up the storied “Canyon of Heroes”, running along Broadway from Battery Park to City Hall.
This is incredible news, because if any team deserved a parade for their efforts, it was this group of women.
