NEW YORK-On Friday, July 10, join your fellow New Yorkers in celebrating the USA Women’s National Soccer Team on their historic World Cup championship.
Delran, New Jersey’s own Carli Lloyd scored a hat trick in the first 15 minutes of the World Cup final, leading the United States Women’s National Team to victory.
The mayor’s office said that Mr.de Blasio, who is on vacation with his family until July 8, has been in conversations with both the victorious players and with city leaders about a possible confetti-covered cavalcade in lower Manhattan.
The squad will become the first women’s team to receive such an honor. The women were feted at a rally in Los Angeles and have been invited to the White House.
For years the city has generally shunned the expense and traffic-clogging of ticker-tape parades unless a local professional team hoisted a trophy….

Those curling streamers were, of course, cut-up ticker tape – a one-inch wide-ribbon of paper that stock quotes were recorded on by a “ticker” machine – thrown out of office windows high above Broadway. On Tuesday it has been announced that there will indeed be a parade for this awesome team, and it will take place in New York City on Friday at 11 AM ET.
