New York Mets near deal Alejandro De Aza
The Mets plan to be among the teams who watch free agent OF Denard Span work out near his home in Tampa in January, according to Ken Davidoff of the New York Post.

The Mets are in search of a lefty-hitting center fielder who can platoon with Juan Lagares – who hits left-handed pitchers well – and Span would be a flawless fit if not for the amount of injuries he’s dealt with over the last 12 months. De Aza’s name first appeared yesterday in connection with the team. The veteran hit. 262 with seven homers and 35 RBI while spending time with the Red Sox, Orioles and Giants, and is a career.
Alejandro De Aza has joined the Mets on a one-year deal. However, De Aza did hit 17 home runs during the 2013 season.
De Aza’s glove has had its share of doubters over the years. His WAR has decreased in each of the last four seasons, although he has had a notable amount of success against right-handed pitchers.

While De Aza is not one of the top outfielders available, he could prove to be a valuable addition to the organization’s outfield. The Mets will get the most out of him by using him as a fourth outfielder. It’s a good signing for the Mets, but they need to solidify another outfielder to have the most depth.
