New York Rangers Rumors: Jimmy Vesey Still a Possibility
The newspaper reports that along with the Sabres the Devils, Rangers and Boston Bruins are expected to try to sign the 2016 Hobey Baker Award victor. Now the Buffalo Sabres hold the rights to Vesey and have put a hard pitch on the 23-year-old American winger. Those rights will expire tomorrow, August 15th, and he will be free to sign with any team. The Maple Leafs are an up-and-coming team. The 23-year-old winger had 56 goals and 104 points in 70 games with Harvard over his last two seasons.

A veteran National Hockey League scout told the Boston Herald that he believes Jimmy Vesey can play in the National Hockey League right away. It is an electric atmosphere with a huge fanbase and insane media coverage so that alone makes it an attractive landing spot for a young player.
I have said numerous times this offseason that I think the group of forwards that the New York Rangers will enter the season with this year is the best overall group they have had in years.
Vesey has been playing with the Rangers’ Kevin Hayes and his brother, the Bruins’ Jimmy Hayes. He was awarded the prestigious Hobey Baker Award, given to the best player in college hockey in 2015-16.
Agent says Jimmy Vesey’s preferred teams are in Eastern Conference, including Bruins: Agent Peter Fish told WEEI.com’s DJ Bean that left wing Jimmy Vesey is a good bet to pick an Eastern Conference team when he makes his decision as a free agent this week. Under coach John Hynes, Vesey could be thrown right into the mix in every aspect of the game. Adding Vesey to the roster really helps you do that.

Whether that’ll sell Vesey on signing with Chicago over the other teams is hard to say. Vesey would be outstanding on a line with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. The team is still a contender, and there are spots available on a scoring line. Jimmy Vesey could fill in nicely instead if he’s willing to play right wing. We talked to his agent about depth and opportunity. They met with him in Boston on July 7 and the Vesey camp has maintained Buffalo remains a player in their decision, even though Vesey has opted to open negotiations with other teams.
