The Dutch worldwide will be hoping to rediscover his best form with Rood-witten, after enduring a torrid two-year spell in England, with injuries restricting him to just 26 appearances for the Magpies.

De Jong has scored just twice during his time on Tyneside and will now return to Holland and link up with his brother Luuk, who also spent time on loan at St James’ Park during the 2013/14 season, at PSV.

‘I am really looking forward to it, ‘ De Jong, who is recovering from a hamstring injury, told PSV’s club website.

“I am fit and can actually train with the group”.

“In the coming weeks I especially need to get into a rhythm”. I am very happy that PSV has come to me, I am grateful to PSV’.

The 27-year-old signed a six-year deal with the Magpies in the summer of 2014, having been acquired from Ajax.

Luuk de Jong spoke to the Dutch media over the weekend about his brother’s imminent arrival and said: “It’s a good opportunity for him to show himself again at the highest level”. It has been a long desire for both of us.
