Newcastle now preparing for big Man Utd test – McClaren

A battle between two of England’s most historic clubs is set to occur this Saturday. It’s not a game I’ll want to look back on but obviously you have games like that. Included in that total is the own goal from Tottenham defender Kyle Walker.

Manchester United possible XI: Romero, Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Shaw, Schneiderlin, Carrick, Mata, Januzaj, Depay, Rooney.

The early kickoff on Saturday will see Newcastle United travel to Manchester to take on Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Newcastle drew their first game 2-2 at home to Southampton and lost their second 2-0 away to Swansea City. Though this is only Steve McClaren’s third competitive match in charge of the Magpies, a result here could be crucial towards their season.

Senior sources at Old Trafford insisted this week that it was Van Gaal, not Pedro, who pulled the plug on United’s pursuit of the forward and the United boss seemed to corroborate that idea on Friday.

Each signing has featured in both pre-season, and the opening games of the Premier League so far.

The arrival of the France Under 21 worldwide on a five-year contract takes the Tyneside club’s spending since last season to £47.7 million (Dh275.3m), and the 22-year-old former Lille midfielder said: “I’m delighted to be about to start my Newcastle career against such a big team with such a great reputation”. Playing a main role in that equation will be new signing Memphis Depay.

Manchester United have made a solid if unspectacular start to their campaign with three consecutive victories but in terms of performances, the Red Devils have much to improve upon.

Even better, let us also give the only other decent winger at the club, Rolando Aarons, a chance on the other side of the pitch.

The Serbian worldwide is yet to start for the Magpies but he must begin to show some restraint if he is the be trusted to lead the line.

He joins Georginio Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Chancel Mbemba and youngster Ivan Toney through the door at St James’s Park this summer.

No Manchester United-Newcastle United Premier League moments review can be complete if it does not include the infamous rant by the Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan losing it on television in the bitter 1995-96 title race.
