Newcastle United v AFC Bournemouth: Shelvey calls for character

“Someone told me about it, and unfortunately it’s been done, obviously, by a journalist who for the last 18 months has written nothing but negative things about Newcastle, a journalist who used to work at this football club and who four or five years ago was released from this club”, said McClaren.

As Newcastle United could soon find themselves operating in the Championship when the 2015/16 season finally reaches its natural conclusion however, maybe Steve McClaren’s side could be forced to part ways with their impressive young talent sooner rather than later, no matter how much potential Rolando Aarons has to offer down on Tyneside in upcoming seasons.

Newcastle created very little against Stoke with just three shots on target and will need to improve quickly if they are to stop Bournemouth from claiming back-to-back wins for the first time since December.

Asked later if he planned to meet managing director Lee Charnley to discuss the situation, the former England boss added: “We don’t want anything to destabilise what we are trying to achieve”.

Bournemouth, though, boast an excellent recent away record as a run of one defeat in their last 10 games on their travels in all competitions – at Arsenal in December – has lifted them eight points clear of the drop zone.

“We almost did that, and on Saturday we need to go and grind out a result at home”. This weekend they will be in front of their home crowd which is a huge boost for them and I think they will be able to do them proud.

“If we keep performing like [against Stoke] I have no problems about us maintaining Premier League status”.

One player where there is no conclusion ahead of Bournemouth is Andros Townsend. “We know the predicament we are in and only we can get out of it”.

Now the board are becoming increasingly anxious that the club are set to lose their Premier League status, especially due to the amount of money coming into the league next season with the new multi billion pound tv deal.

Bournemouth’s midweek win over Southampton was only their third in 11 league games (D4, L4).
