Hervey and the Eskimos have been forced into this situation a week after winning the Grey Cup thanks to Chris Jones departure for Saskatchewan to be coach and GM.
The Riders have yet to confirm or deny the news.
The has been no official announcement by the Saskatchewan Roughriders football club but a press conference has been called for Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
“Football matters a whole lot down south, and it means a whole lot here, and that hinged a lot on my decision”.
Jones, who said he will also serve as defensive coordinator, said there “are good players on this roster”, and that it is now a matter of augmenting that base.
“Not many people get this opportunity and I’m certainly grateful”.
“The search for our new head coach begins immediately”.
Jones, 48, led the Edmonton Eskimos this season to a 14-4 record and their first Grey Cup victory in a decade – just two years after taking over a club that was in the West Division basement.
Jones was selected a finalist for CFL Coach of the Year following both his seasons with Edmonton.
