Newt Gingrich cites Disney imagery in echoing Trump’s Star of David defense
Trump bragged that he had done so in a 23 June announcement in order to boast donors’ confidence in his efforts and reassure those anxious that he would use campaign funds to reimburse himself.

“This was made possible with over 400,000 supporters, with 94% of our supporters giving under $200”, the campaign press release states. Trump’s campaign has aired none.
Then, the Anti-Defamation League, a leading group in the US combating anti-Semitism and bigotry, slammed Trump’s use of the image and Greenblatt told CNN he had no doubt the imagery was anti-Semitic and said it was “the classic trope of Jews and money”.
He began to build up that operation in May, holding a string of joint fundraisers with the RNC and naming his national fundraising leaders – something Clinton had done more than a year earlier. In May, Trump only raised $3.1m from donors.
Later Wednesday afternoon, Trump appealed to his Twitter followers for donations, tweeting, “To all of my twitter followers, please contribute whatever you can to the campaign”. The Trump campaign has not released its cash totals for the month.
A pair of new ads from the Hillary Clinton campaign highlight Donald Trump’s past statements in depicting the Republican nominee as a lightweight unfit for office. By contrast, Hillary Clinton raised million in May.
Clinton raised nearly $70 million in June for her campaign and Democratic partners, her campaign announced last week, an amount that included about $40 million that went directly into her campaign coffers.
Trump has until 20 days after he is formally nominated in Cleveland to convert his campaign loans from the primary election to donations. Trump’s topline numbers couldn’t immediately be verified Wednesday through a formal filing with the Federal Election Commission. The RNC spends its cash not purely on presidential politics – as Trump’s campaign would – but rather on helping the entire Republican ballot.
The figures include $26 million raked in via online fundraising, and $25 million from 22 fundraisers, the campaign said.
“Newt has been my friend for a long time”, Trump said at a July 6 Cincinnati, Ohio, campaign rally with Gingrich in attendance, according to Fox News.
The former House speaker, who is one of the top candidates to be Trump’s vice presidential nominee on the Republican ticket, said in a phone interview with CNN Thursday that he was “very angry” about what he considered to be “the media’s deliberate distortion”.
