NEW YORK (AP) Fox News says it is suspending its contributor agreement with Newt Gingrich “due to the intense media speculation” about him as a potential vice presidential candidate of Republican Donald Trump.
Trump told the Washington Post Monday he would make his vice presidential pick by the end of this week.
Trump has said that if Gingrich is not the vice presidential choice, the former speaker will have some role in his possible future administration.
After describing the bigger-than-life seeming personalities of Trump and himself as being like “pirates”, Gingrich asked: “Do you really want a two-pirate ticket?”
The former speaker of the House has always been on the list of Trump’s vice presidential possibilities.
“‘If Trump offers the position and is serious about it, which I think he would be after our conversations, listen – I would feel compelled to serve the country”, he said last Thursday. Newt gets it. I’ll tell you one thing, folks.
They face long odds against an alliance of Trump’s campaign and leaders of the Republican National Committee, all of them pressing delegates to oppose the dissidents. Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, Gen. Michael Flynn, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are also considered top contenders for the job.

‘We all love Newt. “I thought that was a good way to put it”, Gingrich said.
It’s standard operating procedure for Fox to cut ties with politicians who are weighing runs for political office.

The move to suspend Newt Gingrich as a political contributor is a common one for politicians who work for news networks. Gingrich was brought on as a FOX News contributor in October 2015 after being a CNN contributor before that.
