Next Chrysler 300 to go front-wheel drive?

If Chrysler decides to take that route, the next 300 will come standard with a transversally mounted engine and front-wheel drive, and buyers who need more traction will be able to order all-wheel drive in exchange for a few thousand additional dollars. It has also been expected that these new models would be based on shared chassis architecture from the new Alfa Romeo. In other words, Chrysler has plenty of time to decide whether or not to stick with rear-wheel drive. Marchionne has tipped the media recently the model might switch to the front wheel drive platform used in the 2017 Pacifica minivan – axing the classic rear wheel drive platform. According to Automotive News, modernizing the Brampton facility could cost $1 billion, a potentially necessary step given that the Windsor plant where the Pacifica is built likely won’t have the capacity to also build a sedan.

When you first hear the suggestion of the next Chrysler 300 being built on the same chassis platform and at the same plant as the Chrysler Pacifica, it seems very unlikely. The minivan is dimensionally bigger in nearly every way, so it seems that the company could most certainly use the Pacifica architecture to create the next generation Chrysler 300 sedan while keeping the interior and exterior dimensions of a large sedan.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is set to make some big changes to the brand and their future vehicles. The large sedan is now made at the brand’s plant in Brampton, Ontario, but it’s possible that it will move its production to the Windsor plant. The next gen Chrysler 300 on the Pacifica architecture is underway at the moment, getting ready for a grand launch.

He states that the Ontario factory is “capable” of making the sedan.

So now people are wondering if FCA also wants to make the Challenger and Charger front-wheel-drive cars as well?
