On Tuesday, the NFF President Amaju Pinnick said that the unwillingness of Le Guen to accept targets and also reside in Nigeria caused the final negotiation to hit a deadlock.

Yahaya-Kwande said the NFF had “absolutely no issue” with Le Guen turning down the job but indicated the target – qualification for the next Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup – was non-negotiable.

Nigeria have confirmed the permanent appointment of caretaker coach Salisu Yusuf to the senior national team but have been forced into an embarrassing backtrack over their announcement of Frenchman Paul le Guen as technical advisor.

The board said that the Frenchman was unwilling to live in Nigeria and wanted to come with two assistants which would have made Nigerian coaches redundant made his candidature unacceptable to the board according to VanGuard.

Yusuf, a former midfielder for Maiduguri’s El-Kanemi Warriors and Ranchers Bees in Kaduna, was assistant coach of the national team over the past year and also helped Siasia twice between 2010 and 2011. Also approved was the recommendation for Mr. Bitrus Bewarang to become the new National Technical Director.

The NFF also appointed Imama Amakapabo, as Salisu’s assistant, Amakapabo is the current head coach of Nigeria’s Chan team. In addition, such a candidate must agree to undergo other internal evaluation. He replaces the late Coach Shaibu Amodu.

“It’s sad NFF will look for ways to pay a foreign coach, but owe local coaches backlog of salaries and allowances”.

“Committee approved that henceforth, all Sub-Committees shall submit reports of their activities to the NFF Board through the General Secretary”.
