According to a statement by the NFF, Keshi lacks “the required commitment to achieve the Federation’s objectives”, hence his contract was terminated.

Ex- Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Patrick Ekeji, has said that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was right by terminating the appointment of Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi.
NFF through the voice of its Senior Vice President, Mr. Seyi Akinwunmi, said that the dismissal is without prejudice and the decision was taken in the best interest of Nigerian football.
The NFF also added that Keshi’s sack was “without prejudice to the settlement of any existing and due financial obligations between the NFF and Mr. Keshi.”
The 53-year-old, who only three months ago signed a two-year contract with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), has been relieved of his duties for “lack of commitment” after allegedly applying for the vacant Ivory Coast head coach job.
Keshi had on his part said he was happy with the Eagles job and was ready to see out his two year contract.
The NFF also confirmed that Assistant Coach Salisu Yusuf and the Technical Directorate of the NFF, Shuaibu Amodu will take over the reigns jointly with the Super Eagles.
Keshi recently claimed an un-named agent had submitted his name without his knowledge for the Ivory Coast position.
Amodu who has previously managed the national team on four different occasions returns to the helm for a fifth time.
The 53-year-old was unable to lead Nigeria to the finals in Equatorial Guinea, however, with Daniel Amokachi taking over on an interim basis after that failure, before Keshi returned to the hot seat in April.

The NFF will be keen to move forward and find a new permanent coach with haste, as there are important qualification campaigns now under way and beginning in the near future, including matches for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which began in June, and 2018 World Cup qualifiers scheduled for September.
