NFL 2016: Broncos still rule the AFC West

Head coach Gary Kubiak of the Denver Broncos made it clear that Trevor Siemian will be his week 1 starter.

“I feel like it’s the right decision”, said Kubiak, whose team opens against Carolina on September 8 in a title game rematch.

The Broncos expected Sanchez to waltz in and hold down the starting job until rookie Paxton Lynch was ready to seize the reigns at quarterback.

As we pointed out after Siemian’s first preseason appearance, against Chicago two weeks ago, the Broncos won Super Bowl 50 namely in spite of their quarterbacks, Mannning and Brock Osweiler, as their combined 76.3 passer rating and 3.8 interception percentage ranked 31st and 32nd, respectively, in the NFL.

General manager John Elway quickly acquired Sanchez from the Eagles and drafted Lynch in the first round. The Broncos could cut him just before the condition triggers for the seventh-round pick, and then they could re-sign him at a reduced rate after Week One.

“I was pretty nervous last year”, the 24-year-old quarterback recently was quoted in saying according to USA Today.

“When you look at quarterbacks, you’re always thinking about [whether] they’re great decision-makers under pressure”, Ware said.

If a second-year quarterback with no regular-season passes to his name can be considered a “safe” choice, Trevor Siemian is it. Ross has played 45 games with the Oakland Raiders, Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers since the start of the 2012 season while Posey caught 22 passes in 26 games for the Houston Texans after they drafted him in the third round of the 2012 draft. “That’s exactly what I told the quarterbacks and the football team, that I felt he deserved the right to go out there and be our starting quarterback”.

We’re not sure what happened here, but it’s possible the Broncos simply don’t even know who Mark Sanchez is.

The Broncos are truly going out on a limb this year at the quarterback position. I’m trying to be a good teammate.

Sanchez and Lynch are better quotes. In the Broncos most recent preseason game Sanchez didn’t play at all showing how little their coaching staff thinks of the veteran signal caller.

“I think he’s earned the right to be our guy”, Kubiak said. “I just want to play ball and I want to win”. The fact that Siemian is starting is likely more of an indictment on the play of Sanchez than anything else. “Chances are we’re playing younger guys across the board, not just [at quarterback]”.
