NFL 2016: Eagles go all in on Carson Wentz from the start

The last time Carson Wentz was preparing for the Cleveland Browns, he was studying up for facetime with head coach Hue Jackson and vice president Sashi Brown and preparing to sell himself as the future of a franchise that hasn’t had a winning face at quarterback in decades.

This move isn’t all that shocking by Pederson and the Eagles.

“The whole time, I’ve been getting ready for whenever this time would come along”, Wentz said.

Coach Doug Pederson formally announced that Wentz will be the starter and that he is healthy to play despite suffering a hairline rib fracture in a preseason game that he played. “We are just trying to get better and get ready to play in a big game on Sunday”. “It’s something now that we’re prepared to do and looking forward to Cleveland”.

“He’s such a special guy”. On Tuesday, he showed up at work around 8 a.m., even though it was a players’ day off. Daniel joined him then, too.

The Eagles traded up twice in the draft to select Wentz at No. 2 overall. So the Eagles traded Bradford to the Vikings for a 2017 first-round pick and a conditional 2018 pick. The answer, according to the team’s football czar, is simply the fact that the team did not rate Wentz that highly. “It’s something we believe in and this is why we drafted him”. “I really just block it out”, Wentz said. Would an ideal situation be later than sooner? “We were fortunate to get some draft picks back that we gave up in the trade for Carson and it was right for this football team. All the pieces are here for him to be successful and us to win some games”.

“Now”, Wentz said Monday, “it’s down to business”. Still, the team with the most futile quarterback position looks somewhat foolish saying it turned down a potential franchise quarterback because there was a chance he wouldn’t be one of the 20 best.

The Philadelphia Eagles were forced to make a similar decision last week, as the team was presented an opportunity to potentially improve its future at the cost of its starting quarterback.

“Things changed around here pretty quickly”, Wentz said. “That preseason game I walked away feeling extra confident with it”.

That tells me that Pederson doesn’t wield a whole lot of power at the NovaCare Complex. If Carson Wentz is who the Browns thought he was when they passed on the opportunity to select the North Dakota State star with the No. 2 pick, it is hard to envision Pederson’s first head coaching stint ending in any manner other than flames.

That would never happen with regard to DePodesta, but as it turns out, someone else in the organization did throw a little more fuel into the fire when it comes to being critical of Wentz’ abilities.

“Hello, do you know us?” I was developing at a fast pace and now it’s here.

Rookie quarterbacks have had success in the National Football League in recent years.

It should be noted that the Browns will start Robert Griffin III on Sunday. That means Johnson could possibly play the first four games or so if he decides to go that route. For now, he simply has to play the game, learn and grow into a great leader. Roseman said the offer was just too good to say no to, even if it nearly certainly weakens his team in the short term.
