NFL approves Rams move to LA
Both the Chargers and the Raiders made a different proposal wherein they would be sharing a new stadium that’s planned to be built in Carson, but it didn’t get the 24-vote requirement to be approved.

If San Diego voters approve a financial package to build a stadium here, the Chargers’ Los Angeles option would be extended an additional year. On the first day of eligibility, January 4, all three teams submitted their proposals, which the 17 members of the league’s finance, stadium and L.A. committees reviewed before offering their recommendation to the league’s 32 owners. The Rams, based in the LA area from 1946-94, will play in a temporary facility, probably the Los Angeles Coliseum, until the new stadium is ready, most likely for the 2019 season.
St. Louis Rams fan Don Kirst holds a copy of the Los Angeles Daily News celebrating the impending return of the National Football League team to Los Angeles.
The Chargers walked away from talks with San Diego city and county leaders in June. The Chargers have a one-year option to join the Rams at their Inglewood site and if they do not, that option would be given next to the Raiders.
The league hasn’t said publicly that it plans a London move.
Goodell recognized there would be hurt feelings in St. Louis even as a delay was imposed in the move plans for San Diego and Oakland that might offer last gasp hopes for stadium projects there. The NFL schedule usually isn’t finalized until mid-April, and the Rams will have only seven regular-season home games in 2016, playing the eighth in London against the New York Giants. The St. Louis football Cardinals bolted for Phoenix in 1987. San Diego’s mayor, meanwhile, said Wednesday the city is looking for a fresh start with the team.
“I will be working over the next several weeks to explore the options that we have now created for ourselves to determine the best path forward for the Chargers”, Chargers owner Dean Spanos said in a statement Tuesday.
The Rams will play their home games at the LA Coliseum until their $1.86B stadium, above, in Inglewood is complete. St. Louis resident Andrew Arkills says the city has more pressing matters to deal with, like chronic homelessness and crime. However, the team also has the option of staying in San Diego for the 2016 season and then working out an L.A. lease with the Rams after that.
