NFL clears Patriots of headset suspicion in opening game

“Then as the representative walked away from the New England sideline, the Steelers’ headsets again started to receive the Patriots game broadcast”.

Players and coaches say headsets used to communicate with quarterbacks and designated defenders on the field have become more reliable in recent seasons after the league switched from the outdated analog communication system to a digital network in 2012, but problems persist in the coach-to-coach channels.

Except they were at the home of the twice-convicted New England Patriots.

A tight ends coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers is under investigation by National Football League security for allegedly assaulting and verbally accosting a New England Patriots fan on the way to the locker room before halftime, ESPN reported Friday. With this win at home, the Patriots move their record to 5-1 in season openers this decade. You’re like, “What? The headsets?”

“They told us they were on the verge of shutting it off, but then I guess they got it working”, Belichick said.

But representatives from several teams told SI they have experienced problems with the coaches’ equipment at Gillette-echoing a complaint from the Jaguars after their 2006 playoff loss there, when coach Jack Del Rio said his team’s headsets “mysteriously malfunctioned” for most of the first half.

“We’ve got to finish a few instances better”, coach Mike Tomlin said. I think it’s just a sad commentary and it’s gone to a pretty low level.

The Steelers also had trouble with Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, who scored three touchdowns and seemed impervious to attempt to jam him at the line of scrimmage.

Following the incident, NFL spokesman Michael Signora said the league believes the problem “involved no manipulation by any individual and that the Patriots had nothing to do with it”. A federal judge ruled last week that Brady’s suspension was not permitted by the collective bargaining agreement.

Browns coach Mike Pettine said New England is no worse than other places, but the fact that the Patriots have won so much makes people wonder about the reason for their success. “It’s definitely not the first time [headset issues have] happened in a game, and I’m sure it won’t be the last”.

The Patriots said they had problems with their headsets as well. “We haven’t had one of these games in a long time”. “Tom was very calm on the headset and he enunciated well”, Rodgers said.

With Deflategate behind him Tom Brady returned to his old ways Thursday night tossing four touchdown passes as the New England Patriots beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 28-21 in the NFL season-opener
