NFL Draft 2016: Five riskiest first round picks

THE Los Angeles Rams selected quarterback Jared Goff with the No. 1 pick in the National Football League draft on Thursday while a former candidate for the top selection tumbled down the order after a weird video was shared on his Twitter feed showing him smoking marijuana.

In an interview with ESPN just before the draft, Goff said he was a San Francisco 49ers fan growing up and would like to wear No. 16 with the Rams in honor of Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana.

Goff represents the second time in recent years the Rams used the top pick to take a quarterback they hoped would revitalize the franchise.

The leap promises to be a significant one for Wentz, who spent his collegiate career at North Dakota State, playing at a lower level of competition than Goff.

Alabama increased its streak to eight consecutive years with a first-round draft choice when the Indianapolis Colts selected Crimson Tide center Ryan Kelly with the 18th overall pick. Goff wore the number at California.

“It’s been kind of nonstop since I heard my name get called”, Goff said after Friday’s news conference, reiterating that he was looking forward to returning home to Northern California to decompress for a few days before preparing for the rookie minicamp.

The Baltimore Ravens had a record five selections in the fourth round, which began with pick No. 99 by the Cleveland Browns and included Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook (100th, Oakland Raiders) and Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones (139, Buffalo Bills).

Luckily, Tunsil landed the 13 pick of the Miami Dolphins during 2016 NFL Draft round one.

The 6-foot-6 Higbee was an outstanding collegiate pass-catcher, making 38 receptions for 563 yards and eight touchdowns a year ago in an offence run by Tyson Helton, now the quarterbacks coach at Southern California.

It’s the first opening-round quarterback for the Eagles since they grabbed Donovan McNabb with the No. 2 pick in the 1999 draft. Cleveland selected Corey Coleman, wr, Baylor and (No. 76).

Top-ranked prospects who fell to the second round because of season-ending and potentially career-threatening knee injuries, Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith was picked 34th by the Dallas Cowboys and UCLA’s Myles Jack went next.

2, Tampa Bay xxx traded its first-round pick (No. 9) to Chicago for the Bears’ first- (No. 11) and fourth-round (No. 106) picks.

3, Washington traded its first-round pick (No. 21) to Houston for the Texans’ first- (No. 22) and a 2017 sixth-round pick. Washington selected Josh Doctson, wr, TCU. The Seattle Seahawks wrapped up the first round by selecting Texas A&M offensive tackle Germain Ifedi at No. 31.

Fisher said one goal for Goff is to start the September 12 regular-season opener against the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara.
