NFL Draft: How Kaepernick, 49ers are affected by Denver’s QB pick

The Broncos used that pick to select Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch. That they apparently were willing to give up other picks try to move up for Paxton Lynch – Denver ultimately made the deal with Seattle, parting with the No. 31 and 94 picks – is proof that they’re not focused exclusively on defense.

You can be sure Lynch will forever be compared to Goff and even Carson Wentz, who was taken No. 2 overall by the Eagles.

Unable to reach a contract agreement with quarterback Colin Kaepernick over the past seven weeks that would have facilitated a trade, Denver Broncos general manager John Elway closed the door Thursday night on a possible deal with the 49ers. “Everybody competes and I’m expecting him to come in here and make up some ground really quickly”.

Lynch will join another Central Florida area prospect on the Broncos’ quarterback depth chart.

It doesn’t look like there’s going to be an it-boy in this year’s quarterback class.

But John Elway made the right call here. “He fits what we do very well and plays the game with a lot of enthusiasm”. And it’s because, in Lynch, they see numerous attributes Elway, a Hall of Fame quarterback, believes a top-flight passer must have to flourish in the NFL. So the Cowboys knew they couldn’t trade down with Baltimore and still get their man. Taking over the every-week signal caller role for the Broncos could come within the next few seasons for Lynch.
