After going undefeated in their first 10 games, the Patriots went 2-4 in their last six.

Brady needed only five plays to traverse the 69 yards for a touchdown, culminating with a 16-yard pump-fake and strike to an uncovered Gronkowski and a 21-6 lead.

It wasn’t the most explosive offensive performance by any stretch, and Edelman dropped too many passes for our liking, but given all of the new pieces in the lineup, and the quality of the Chiefs’ defense, that was a really positive performance by the offense. They threw 25 times in the first half and ran it seven.

It was ruled that Brady was out of bounds at the 1-yard line.

The Patriots’ second touchdown drive was a 98-yard number that had to be frustrating to the Chiefs. The Patriots get a good return from Amendola and another field goal out of the drive, this time from 32 yards out. From there, Brady got it down to the goal line on a second-down scramble. It was challenged, the two made up, and the call stood.

■ Not a great day for Logan Ryan, however, who got beaten by Albert Wilson for a touchdown, committed a pass interference on the 1, and appeared to give up several catches on third down to Wilson and Jason Avant.

The New England Patriots are back on the field after an eventful bye week. The Chiefs then made it to the Patriots 16, but settled for a field goal.

New England leads Kansas City 21-13 at the start of the fourth quarter. Cairo Santos connected on a 34-yard field goal to cut the New England lead to 7-3. With center Bryan Stork back in after leaving briefly with an ankle injury and backup center David Andrews lined up as a fullback, Brady pushed forward into a pile of Chiefs for the score.

■ Well, we got our answer Saturday night: The Patriots can be effective on offense when plugging in several players coming off injury at once.
