NFL, law enforcement looking into hacked tweet about Goodell

The NFL said its Twitter feed was hacked Tuesday after a tweet was posted announcing that commissioner Roger Goodell had died.

NFL PR guru Brian McCarthy quickly put an end to the rumors, tweeting: “The @NFL Twitter account was hacked”. “We are reviewing and strengthening our cyber-security measures”.

I would have to say that Mr. Goodell won this round against the random internet hacker and death hoax purveyor. The defiant hacker posted it a second time, getting a thousand more retweets and 500 likes before it was deleted again.

Anyway, Goodell, who is not an avid tweeter, is doing just fine not being dead. On Sunday, Ourmine, a hacker group with 41,000 followers on Twitter, claimed to have compromised Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn accounts.

Podanoffsky said he wasn’t making a statement on behalf of Patriots fans about Goodell’s handling of the Deflategate case, in which quarterback Tom Brady’s four-game National Football League suspension is now being appealed.

The NFL’s Director of Social Content did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The hacker followed up the initial message with two others that taunted the NFL’s Twitter team. Hours afterward, Goodell cracked a joke about the incident on his own personal Twitter account.
