NFL, NFLPA request resolution to Tom Brady lawsuit before season

Brady looked sharp in his first action since the Patriots beat the Seahawks for the franchise’s fourth NFL title. The Patriots and Jets don’t meet until Week 7, which means Brady will face New York after serving his suspension.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft threw his support behind his player, considered one of the NFL’s all-time greats.

“That’s definitely an extra motivation, especially for Tom Brady and the whole team”, said fan Matt Nunes. “It hasn’t.” With those parting words, he makes his exit.

He also said Brady’s suspension should not be reviewed in Minnesota just because Peterson’s was. “We are happy in any federal court, which unlike the arbitration before Goodell provides a neutral forum, and will now seek our injunction in the New York court”.

The union wanted the case to be heard in Minnesota, where US District Judge David Doty has a history of ruling in favour of players in labour cases against the NFL.

Earlier in the day, the NFL and the players union asked the Manhattan judge in a joint letter to resolve their dispute over Bradys suspension by September 4 — six days before the Patriots opener against Pittsburgh.

According to the league commissioner, there were more than 10,000 text messages in the phone that can no longer be retrieved, with the information regarding the destruction of the phone only disclosed last June 18, four months after electronic evidence was asked from Brady.

New England Patriots’ superstar quarterback Tom Brady and the NFL Players Association filed a lawsuit against the NFL in a Minnesota federal court on Wednesday.

Brady was suspended four games and the team was docked $1 million and two draft picks for what the NFL said was a scheme to provide insufficiently inflated footballs for the AFC championship game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network also reported the NFLPA has filed a motion attempting to seal parts of the hearing from the public.

“We’re not really looking that far ahead”, Garoppolo deflected in true Patriots fashion. Brady appealed, but Commissioner Roger Goodell upheld the punishment on Tuesday.

The defending Super Bowl champions are trying to replace Vince Wilfork on the defensive line and Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner in the secondary.

Second-year quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will start in Brady’s place if his suspension is upheld.

“I had to forget about it quickly; there was a lot of practice left, lot of seven-on-seven and a lot of team [drills], so just forget about that fast and move on”, he said. “I understand he’s very emotional about this and feels very strongly about this”.
