NFL’s ‘Color Rush’ jerseys prove problematic for a few fans

This meant that the red Bills uniforms placed up against the green grass as well as the dark green Jets uniforms were a mess to look at for colorblind viewers.

The Associated Press’ Michael A. Giarrusso let the world know how this “Color Rush” game would create serious problems for men with red-green color blindness. That would make it tough for them to differentiate between their teammates and opponents, since jersey color is the easiest way to do so. Recent estimates suggest that 10 million Americans suffer from it. Red-green colorblindness is the most common. They organized a Color Rush game with Nike, sort of an advertising ploy for millions of dollars.

As far as making it hard for colorblind fans, Mr. Gordon – who is vice chairman of the board at Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh – said he is confident the National Football League will do the right thing. “We did test the jerseys this summer on field and on television”.

Bills linebacker Nigel Bradham said he thought the uniforms “were unbelievable”. The Bills have been wearing scarlet pink jerseys, sleeves, pants, socks and footwear. Soon after the game started, a small army of people with red-green colorblindness took to Twitter complaining that they could not at all tell the two teams apart.

But the Color Rush idea isn’t fading away any time soon. For now, fans will get a taste of the new uniforms during four Thursday night football games. Next Thursday’s game between the Tennessee Titans and the Jacksonville Jaguars will feature the uniforms again, blue for the Titans and gold for the Jaguars. “Both teams with white trousers wouldn’t help since the jerseys would still be confused”.
