NFL season begins with same issues _ hits to the head

Carolina Panthers officials say quarterback Cam Newton passed four concussion tests after absorbing at least four helmet-to-helmets hits Thursday in a 21-20 season-opening loss to the Broncos at Denver. There was a stoppage of play and National Football League officials said the unaffiliated neurotrama consultant and the team physician requested video and reviewed the play. But that didn’t stop him from going all-in on the Panthers’ offensive line after the game, with one guy specifically in mind.

Trevor Siemian has been given the tough task of replacing five-time league Most Valuable Player (MVP) Peyton Manning at the helm of the Denver offense, but the unheralded quarterback on Thursday looked up for the job in a Super Bowl rematch against Carolina to open the NFL season. “Especially our defense, we are going to be in every game we play in with those guys”, Siemian said.

“I think his style of play is different as far as quarterbacks are concerned”.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is the reigning MVP of the National Football League, but coach Ron Rivera says he isn’t being treated like someone of that stature. “It wasn’t something that I know they did intentionally”, Newton said. However, something was not right last night while watching the game unfold. “I thought I (led) with the shoulder”, Stewart said. We played in a hostile environment where we were just one play away. The official missed what the Panthers and the fans saw as their fair share of late hits and helmet to helmet hits against the Broncos, which led the Panthers to complain for just about the entire second half which probably did not make their cases any more valid.

The NFL determined Marshall should have been flagged for his hit on Newton, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press.

“I was going to drill it, no doubt in my mind”, Gano said. “But when you deliberately target and when you’re constantly being hit after the ball is out, I question the intent of the defensive player, and I question the official who, basically, if he does not warn them, lets the flow of the game continue”. Denver sent their Hall-of-Fame quarterback off into the blue and orange sunset while placing one into the saddle who has never thrown a pass in a regular season game.

Rivera added he would, “love to see him start getting some of that veteran favoritism, that’d be cool”.

Even though this hit was terrifying, plus the fact Newton suffered other hits to the head earlier in the game, medical staff didn’t believe there were “indications of a concussion”, which is mind-boggling.
