NFL suspends Bills star defensive tackle Dareus for 4 games

Getting on the practice field, Lawson’s good news return did not last long as rumors quickly began to swirl about the player potentially facing a one-game suspension for a domestic violence incident. During the first four games of the season, Buffalo will play the Baltimore Ravens, the New York Jets, the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots, likely without Dareus or Karlos Williams.

In the absence of Dareus, the Bills could turn to veterans Kyle Williams or Corbin Bryant to start at nose tackle in Rex Ryan’s 3-4 defensive scheme.

Dareus is a two-time Pro Bowl selection and has been a starter since Buffalo drafted him with the No. 3 pick in 2011. By giving him a $103 million contract extension a year ago, $60 million of that guaranteed, they have no choice but to stand by him.

He apologized to the team and fans in an Instagram post on Tuesday. “I’ve reached out to the organization and we’re trying to get to the bottom of this”.

“I’m going to come back and do the best that I can”, said Dareus. “It’s all action and that’s all I’m going to do. This situation might be that much different than some other guys that I’ve had, but he has to make those decisions”, Ryan said.

Dareus said he was notified by the league of the suspension following Buffalo’s preseason 19-18 loss to Indianapolis on Saturday. MI defensive end Shelton Johnson, who signed with the Wolverines in 2015 but did not play in any games last season, and wide receiver Ahmir Mitchell, who was part of this year year’s signing class, have been suspended, according to coach Jim Harbaugh .

Utley was a six-time All-Star in 13 seasons as Philadelphia’s second baseman, helping the team win five straight NL East titles and the 2008 World Series. There’s going to some people that won’t ever give him the benefit of the doubt anymore.

“We all care a great deal for Marcell”, Ryan said.

Now, it appears both Brady and Dareus will be watching that game from home. “I believe that moving forward, this young man will learn from this experience and be a better man for it”.

Dareus will forfeit $1.505 million in total compensation, which includes his signing bonus and option bonus. The NFL suspended the 26-year old for four games for violation of the substance-abuse policy. The Pro Football Hall of Fame also was named in the suit.
