NFL suspends Chiefs’ Sean Smith 3 games

Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Sean Smith has been suspended three games by the NFL after pleading guilty to a DUI charge in April. The Chiefs play against the Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium on September 17 and the Packers in Green Bay on September 28.

Smith was also placed on two year probation for the incident that occurred in June 2014.

Smith does not plan to appeal the punishment, according to the report. His probation ends March 9, 2017. Smith was pulled over by police after his vehicle struck and broke a light pole.

An investigation by the officer revealed the vehicle had major front end and undercarriage damage and the light pole was on the sidewalk and broken.

“At 6’2” and 215 pounds, Smith gives the Chiefs’ secondary a dimension that few other teams can match.

If Peters doesn’t transition smoothly to the NFL, then Smith’s absence could leave Kansas City in catch-up mode all season.

The NFL’s substance-abuse policy calls for a two-game suspension for a first offense.

Under the previous policy, first-time DUI offenders received no penalty.

He is entering the final year of his contract with the Chiefs. He is scheduled to be a free agent after this season.
