NFL suspends Giants WR Beckham for one game
“Different situations call for different reactions”, tight end Greg Olsen said. “But we’re ready for the challenge”. But clearly, from where I sat Sunday, the major aggressor throughout the game was Beckham. The Steelers won 34-27. He melted down against the Carolina Panthers, and his helmet-first launch into Josh Norman’s head carried the required penalty across the divide separating a fine from a seat in his living room for the New York Giants’ game at Minnesota.

The suspension was an embarrassment for Beckham, who in two seasons has become one of pro football’s most popular and celebrated players and the focal point of the Giants’ offense.
While the video hardly defends Beckham’s actions, it does offer a new insight as to why the receiver was thrown so far off his game and went so far out of his way to engage with Norman.
During a one-sided first half, the young Giants receiver also charged cornerback Josh Norman and rammed his helmet into his side.
There was plenty of pushing, shoving, swinging, wrestling, late hits and trash talking between them.
Beckham’s actions are indefensible. Say what you want about the use of such props being commonplace around the league; that doesn’t make it right. Still, Mariota left no doubts that he is the Titans future at the position and certainly a player that they can build around. “He came back and was hunting; and it was malicious in every way”. This “blindside block” was particularly flagrant because Beckham, with a 10-yard running start, had an unobstructed path to his opponent, the position of the opponent was not impacted by any other player, and the contact with the head/neck was avoidable, the NFL’s statement said.
Beckham refused to discuss his run-ins with Norman, skirting the questions by saying the loss was unfortunate.
“We were going to hit and stick everything we see”, Norman said after the game.
He never did, and neither did the referee. Their 449 points through 14 games topped the 421 they scored in 1999. The source identified the practice squad player as Marcus Ball.
Norwood raced 71 yards for a TD that would have put the Broncos ahead 34-20 with a minute left in the third quarter. Those who know the stoic, controversy-adverse quarterback understand he wouldn’t step into the middle of a media inferno for just any Giant. In the past 15 years, only two other receivers have been flagged at least three times for personal fouls in a game, according to ESPN. Coach Gary Kubiak said Osweiler was “sore today… and all indications are that he’ll be OK”.
Quarterback carousel • Brandon Weeden could start for the Texans this weekend, against Tennessee, as they try to clinch the AFC South title. They (the Steelers) also had guys running on the field, which is evident. Norman was infuriated by the helmet-to-helmet hit and called for the league to look at Beckham’s play.
But as much as Beckham deserves to be punished, he doesn’t deserve to be demonized.
“I think Norman came out and made his comments, which I think Odell took the higher road so I am proud of him on that aspect”.

On Monday, Jackson, who hasn’t played this season after spending the past two years with the Falcons, posted a picture of himself from the back on Twitter, accompanied by the words, “I’m back”.
