NFL to address concerns of colorblind fans who had trouble distinguishing

Thursday night’s Bills versus Jets game was the first of the NFL’s Color Rush campaign.

The colors of jerseys a few National Football League fans couldn’t see.

This meant that the red Bills uniforms placed up against the green grass as well as the dark green Jets uniforms were a mess to look at for colorblind viewers.

The uniforms in Thursday night’s Jets-Bills game weren’t only garish, they were downright unfair to a few of the fans watching. For now, fans will get a taste of the new uniforms during four Thursday night football games.

Reacting to last night’s game, a few critics simply decided that even for people who can discern between red and green, the uniforms were a bad idea.

In a statement released Friday the league stated the uniforms passed standard television tests in the summer but they “did not account for colour blindness”. The Jets were decked out in Kelly green. On November 19, it’ll be Tennessee (Titans blue) at Jacksonville (bold gold); Carolina (Panthers blue) at Dallas (white) on November 26; and Tampa Bay (red) at St. Louis (yellow gold) on December 17.

The organization said the monochromatic uniforms, designed by Nike, are meant to combine a current and historic uniform color as a way to unite the fan base and “honor each franchise”.
